Is the singularity project preparing for Skynet?

From the Terminator series of movies Skynet is the computer system that becomes self aware and finds humans to be detrimental to its survival. It creates a nuclear war then works to destroy who is left.

This makes for a good sci-fi thought experiment, but apparently this is exactly the type of idea that is on the minds of techno nerds. Artificial intelligence is rapidly improving and it stands to reason that some day that there is a chance that computers can rapidly improve their selves and become self aware is causing researchers to designing an off switch that cannot be self engineered around by a self improving computer.

Listening to this is not only prescient but Ike speaks in a tone that would not be spoken today.   We hear less humility than hubris.  Just well crafted speeches, focus grouped, fed through a teleprompter.
